5th graders recently raised over $244 to help save rainforests. They purchased rainforest buttons designed and made by Mrs. Sarah Allen and her 10th grade Spanish class. Mrs. Allen said that she did extensive Internet research before finally deciding to choose the Rainforest Action Network as the recipient of the fundraiser. Rainforest Action Network helps protect the forests, their inhabitants and the natural systems that sustain life. The 5th graders showed that they care about the rainforest and the plants and animals that live there!
Rhyme Celebration
Nine of our fifth grade Spanish students recently participated in the Connecticut Rhyme Celebration. Elementary aged students from all across Connecticut met at Marlboro Elementary School to perform songs and rhymes in fifteen languages! Six of our youngsters performed the song ‘Dolor de cabeza’. This years’ theme was ‘We all laugh in the same language’. Our song was a big hit with the audience who laughed out loud to the antics of the children as they sang and acted out having aches and pains all over their bodies. Additionally, two students recited poems in their heritage languages of Lithuanian and Polish. This was the first year the Rhyme Celebration has had Lithuanian performed. Another child read a poem he had written in his second language of English. This was an experience that taught us that there are many languages and cultures thriving right inside of our own state!
The fifth grade Spanish students have been working diligently this year and have accomplished a number of challenging and lengthy activities. Because of their hard work and great overall performance, the 5th grade team, and Señora Brault would like to honor those students who excel in the Spanish FLES classroom. These students were chosen for their outstanding effort, work quality and helpfulness in the Spanish classroom. ¡Buenísimo!
