Welcome to the excitement of First Grade!

First Grade is a wonderful time of learning and growing academically, as we explore the wonderful world of reading, writing and math but also socially and emotionally, as we make new friends, learn about the world around us and work together as a team with our classmates.

Communication between home and school is key!

Each day please look for your child’s RED homework folder.  In it you will find your child’s GREEN homework book.  On the inside cover you will find a weekly classroom agenda that have homework assignments, special events, classroom news and other important information.  The folder may also contain important notices from the school office.  This is also a good vehicle for you to send notes to school for me.  If anything out of the ordinary happens that you feel may influence you child at school such as an ill family member, the death of a pet, new additions to the family or even a late night out please let me know.  Students requesting to be picked up or an early dismissal must have a note.  I will look for these notes and others in the RED homework folder.

I feel parents are a great resource.  If you have a special interest, hobby, job etc. that you would like to share with the class, let me know.  We would love to have you share your knowledge with us!  Career Week in May is an especially good time to speak about your job.

We will have a short break each day for “Books and Snacks”.  I ask that each child bring in a nutritious snack each day to eat as they enjoy reading silently.

I send home a snack schedule at the beginning of each month.  I ask that each child bring in a nutritious snack that can be shared with the class on his or her day.  I have found that parents love this idea since you only have to think of a new snack about once a month instead of a new one each day.  It’s a real time saver too!  I provide snack the first week of school.
